I have often felt that programming is an art form, whose real value can only be appreciated by another versed in the same arcane art; there are lovely gems and brilliant coups hidden from human view and admiration, sometimes forever, by the very nature of the process. You can learn a lot about an individual just by reading through his code, even in hexadecimal. -- Ed Nather in a May 21, 1983 USENET post |

About Me
My name is Ryan Michela and I am a computer programmer and freshman at AUM studying math. When I am on the clock, I proudly write code for the United States Air Force. On my free time, I work on whatever suits my fancy. I enjoy computer games, and have even tried my hand at writing them. My current game of choice is Final Fantasy XI. My primary character is Salizar on the Caitsith server. He is a Taru black mage who likes to blow stuff up. I also enjoy playing the Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1984. When I'm not gaming, I enjoy movies, friends, and even a bit of table top roll playing. I volunteer my time to the National Science Olympiad, helping to run various state tournaments and the national tournament at the end of the season. I help run the Mission Possible event in which students build Rube Goldburg-like devices. I also give considerable time supporting Scioly.org, the premier Science Olympiad support site. I've even written a few of the event help pages there. I am proficient in C/C++ and VB6. I have written in Pascal, Scheme, TIBasic, QBasic, and Logo. Above all, I am most proficient in Java. I am intimately familiar with J2SE and am capable in J2EE. I can write console apps, desktop, apps, server apps, and web apps. I am decent with SQL and am a competent database designer. I have significant exposure to system architecture and design, especially with design patterns. Overall, I am a generalist. A jack of all trades. |
